Lavender 03:35
My age begins to falter inside this cage As every hope I had is for someone else to embrace My shoes are left abandoned As I walk under lava rocks Before my feelings erupt Before I turn abrupt Above this thunder I can lay down, I can lay down, A blanket of lavender So I can sleep now, so I can sleep now This day begins to beckon something new As I can't escape the pain from the velvet flame That controls everything I do My voice is left encaptured by the birds in the neglected fields As now I have no anchor To pull me from the fretboards of the sea Above this thunder I can lay down, I can lay down, A blanket of lavender So I can sleep now, so I can sleep now, So I can rest now, so I can rest now Above this thunder I can lay down, I can lay down, A blanket of lavender So I can sleep now, so I can sleep now,

about

I wrote ‘Lavender’ back in 2017, inspired by Sicily providing a beacon of hope for Libyan refugees. The lyric ‘above this thunder, I can lay down a blanket of lavender’ reflects their need of a safe haven in a time of deep distress and uncertainty. ‘Lavender’ unfortunately resonates with us once more with the current crisis in Ukraine.

I will be giving 100% of the song’s proceeds, raised on Bandcamp, to the British Red Cross charity. I hope it will help Ukrainian families, who are fleeing the invasion of their home soil.

How will my donation help people in Ukraine?

As the security situation allows, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will continue to respond to existing and emerging humanitarian needs. The Red Cross has supported people affected by this conflict for years and this will not stop now.

Your donation could help someone affected get:

food
water
first aid
medicines
warm clothes
shelter
Your donation will mean we can reach even more people in desperate need. Please donate today.
